Things looked bleak in the early morning hours as the rain continued to pour down on an already flooded field, but with teams already in town from Seattle and Ridge Meadows, the volunteers went to work with brooms and pitch forks allowing all four games to go off without a hitch.
Velites kick off weekend with win!The Velites were up first taking on the Ridge Meadows Bruins in Langara Fishing Adventures Division Two action with both teams coming into the game undefeated. The teams struggled to get any real flow going do to the sloppy conditions. The score see sawed back and forth but it was Velox who prevailed 22-15 and are now 2-0 to sit atop the standings. Alexandria Bicknel lead the way for Velox with 3 trys while Taylor Reidlinger adde 1 try and Maradi Blow kicked a convert while Ridge Meadows got trys from Lindsay Hill with a pair and Roxanne Dunhamel.
Valkyries remain undefeated!The featured game on the day saw the Valkyries taking on Simon Fraser University in an Adidas Premiership matchup. The Valkyries held their annual Player Auction on Thursday night with supporters bidding on which player would score the first try to add to the day's excitement.

(photo by Glenn Ivens) Velox would not take long to get on the board when Jesse Olynik crossed the line to take the early lead much to the delight of the Sims family. The Valkyries juggernaut continued and the heavily outmatched SFU ladies fell 79-0. The win moves Velox to 3-0 on the season and into a tie with Burnaby Lake for top spot in the division. Scoring trys for the Valkyries were Olynik (4), Shannon Kane (3), Samantha Robb (2), Marlene Donaldson (1), Natalie Tam (1), Lindsay Anderson (1), Angelika Wippler (1) while Jane Cruttenden with 7 converts.

Both Men's teams went into the weekend winless and were looking to prove something against the Seattle RFC. Beavers fall to Seattle.The Okanagan Spring Brewery League 2 game saw the Beavers remain winless after Seattle RFC downed them 19-0. Valhallians get first win of season.In Okanagan Spring Brewery League 1 action the Valhallians were determined to get the win and battled to a hard fought 24-19 victory. With the win the Valhallians leap over winless Richmond into 4th place in the standings. The weekend rugby action at Velox field wraps up today when the Men's 3rd's take on Saanich Peninsula. Next weekend sees the Men's teams travel to the Lower Mainland to take on Richmond and the Velites head to Burnaby Lake while the Valkyries host Capilano RFC at 11:30 on Saturday.
